Joseph Thompson Woodside

Joseph Thompson Woodside was born about 1842 in Perry County, Illinois, to John Morrow Woodside and Lucinda Eveline (Pettit). He worked on his family's farm along with his brothers.

At 22 years of age he married Mary E. Abrams of Bond County. The marriage took place on March 10, 1864 in Bond County, and was performed by James Cox, Minister of the Gospel. Mary was born about 1848 in Missouri to John and Mary Abrams.

Joseph and Mary had 5 known children:
  • John A. - born between 1866-1867 in Illinois. No more is known.
  • Mary Delilah - born about 1867 in Illinois. She married Howard Sparks (b. 1863 Michigan) about 1890 and had 3 children in Colorado - Alice, b. 1892; Arthur, b. 1893; Earl, b. 1894. Howard is listed as a Widow in the 1920 census in Jackson, Missouri; however, I could not locate the family in the 1910 census. It is unknown when and where Mary died.
  • Lucinda - born April 1870 in Illinois. Married John A. Cahoon in Greenville, Bond County, Illinois on December 30, 1886. She is believed to have died between 1887 and 1893, but I have not yet located the death record.
  • Martha Jane - born March 1872 in Illinois. She married Hartman Evans (b. April 1862 Indiana) in 1888 and had 5 children in Colorado - Carrie, b. abt. 1889; Charles, b. Dec 1890; Willis, b. Aug 1896; Dorothy, b. abt. 1902; Lula, b. abt. 1904. Hartman died sometime before 1940 and Martha remarried to Walter Quincey. Martha died in Pomona, Los Angeles County, California on October 3, 1948, and is buried in the Grand View Memorial Park Cemetery.
  • Lavina - born March 2, 1878 in Fayette County, Illinois, and died September 24, 1880 in Fairview Precinct, Bond County, Illinois. She is buried in the Campground Cemetery.
Joseph Thompson Woodside died on March 10, 1886 in Greenville, Bond County, Illinois. He was killed when a tree he was cutting down fell on him. He is buried in Campground Cemetery in Bond County.

Mary (Abrams) Woodside was living with daughter Martha in Oakland, California, as of the 1920 census, and is listed as 73 years of age. She died on March 27, 1924 and is buried at Mountain View Cemetery, Piedmont, California.
